Overview
The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Education Team is seeking volunteer tutors for our virtual Elementary Afterschool Tutoring Program for the 2022-2023 school year, Spring semester. Volunteer tutors will be great role models for our students by supporting them in completing their homework and strengthening their academic skills.
Position Description
Volunteer Tutors will support the Elementary School Afterschool Program by offering one-on-one or small group homework help to elementary school students in Grades 1-5. Homework help sessions are conducted via Google Meets and last an hour and a half between 3-6 PM. Volunteer tutors may also be used as substitutes for other volunteers at times.
Qualifications

Passionate, committed, engaging!

Experience in working with children is preferred, but not required

Background in mathematics and/or English is preferred

Stable internet connection

Volunteers must be available on both Tuesdays and Thursdays

Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age at the time of application
Location
Virtual; work can be done from anywhere in the world!
Time Commitment

On-going; immediate hire (flexible)

Training/Support Provided
Volunteers will undergo a brief and mandatory training with CIANA staff.

Middle School Afterschool Volunteer Tutor (virtual)

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Education Team is seeking volunteers for our virtual Middle School Afterschool Program for the 2022-2023 school year, Spring semester. Volunteers will be great role models for our middle school students by supporting them in completing their homework, strengthening their academic skills, and leading fun, virtual activities for students.
Position Description
Volunteer tutors will support Middle School students by offering small group virtual homework help to students in Grades 6-8. Homework help sessions are conducted via Google Meets between 3-4:00PM. Volunteers may also have the opportunity to lead extracurricular activities between 5-6:00PM (to be discussed during onboarding). Due to occasional schedule changes, volunteer tutors may also substitute for other volunteer tutors at times.

Volunteer ESL Instructor (virtual)

Position Overview
CIANA is looking for a volunteer instructor to teach our English as a Second Language (ESL) class for adults Thursday and Friday mornings from 10:30 AM to Noon. Classes are typically attended by 10-20 students whose English proficiency ranges from beginner to intermediate. You must be comfortable managing a diverse group of students and facilitating fun and interactive activities.
Responsibilities

Write and deliver English lessons that incorporate reading, writing, speaking, and listening components based on a curriculum

Facilitate lessons on life skills and practical English in a fun and accessible way
-
Collaborate with other ESL teachers on lesson development and execution

Assist in tracking student needs and progress
Requirements

Consistent availability on Thursdays and Fridays from 10AM to 11:30AM

Charismatic, dynamic, and interactive instruction methods

Motivated to help students achieve their goals

Competent in and respectful of cultural differences

Passionate about advancing immigrant rights
Bonus Points

Students enrolled in a CELTA, TESOL, or TEFL program, or a retired teacher

Proficiency or fluency in another language (especially Arabic, Bengali, and Spanish)
