Afterschool Volunteer Tutor (in-person)

Overview

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Education Team is seeking in-person volunteer tutors for our Afterschool Tutoring Program for the 2023-2024 school year, Fall semester. Volunteer tutors will be great role models for our students by supporting them in completing their homework and strengthening their academic skills.

Position Description

Volunteer Tutors will support CIANA's Afterschool Program by offering one-on-one or small group homework help to elementary school students in Grades 1-5 and/or middle school students in Grades 6-8. Homework help sessions are conducted between 3-6 PM at an off-site location near the CIANA office in Astoria, Queens. Volunteer tutors may also be used as substitutes for other volunteers at times.

Qualifications

  • Passionate, committed, engaging!

  • Experience in working with children is preferred, but not required

  • Background in mathematics and/or English is preferred

  • Volunteers must be available on both Mondays and Wednesdays

  • Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age at the time of application

  • On-going; immediate hire (flexible)

  • Mondays and Wednesdays

Training/Support Provided

Volunteers will undergo a brief and mandatory training with CIANA staff.

  • Gmail account

  • Volunteers must be available on both Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • Volunteers must be at least 15 years of age at the time of application

Virtual; work can be done from anywhere in the world!

Time Commitment

  • On-going; immediate hire (flexible)

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1.5-hour tutoring sessions between the hours of 3PM - 6PM
