Internship Opportunities

CIANA interns will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of New York City’s newly-arrived immigrants while acquiring new skills and hands-on experience serving diverse communities.
 
Internships are unpaid, but may be completed for academic credit.

Casework Intern

Education Intern (Spanish speaking)

Position Description

The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) Education team provides newly-arrived immigrant youth and adults with classes, programs, and educational resources that they need. While assisting our Education team, an Education Intern will have a front row seat to this process.

 

The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans, Inc. (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Latin America into the socioeconomic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.

Qualifications

  • This internship is for students with a passion for social justice who are looking for hands-on experience in education and administration

  • Conversational Spanish language skills are required

  • Computer skills such Google Suite and Microsoft Suite

Typical daily tasks include:

  • Return calls to current and prospective students and assist them with enrollment

  • Conduct general intakes with clients and provide them with information for the service requested (ESL, Civics classes, legal services, etc.)

  • Enter new Education client info into our database and Google platforms

  • Assist Education Director with tasks and projects as needed related to student files and attendance

  • Help organize educational materials both in the office and online

  • Opportunity to tutor students in Grades 1-8

 

Compensation

Unpaid, but may be completed for academic credit

 

Time Commitment

  • Regular schedule required

  • 15-20 hours per week during CIANA office hours (Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM)

Training/Support Provided

Interns will receive orientation and training with CIANA staff.

COVID-19 Precautions

Recent COVID booster shot and masking while working with clients is required.
