Bilingual Resident Advisor
CIANA is looking for highly responsible, flexible, and detail-oriented Residential Advisors (RAs) to assist newly arrived asylee families with children living in a NYC Family Shelter located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Working with CIANA management, the RAs will welcome and engage asylum-seeking families, covering different shifts during the week and over the weekend.
The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant social services experience with immigrant populations, or two years of relevant experience working with immigrant population; or experience in a congregate housing or shelter setting
Ability to problem-solve and work as part of a team
Basic understanding of immigration laws and regulations
Cultural competency and understanding of child welfare regulations
Good English verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in Spanish is required; other languages is a plus
Registration, intake, tracking, room check/bed count, assessment, reporting
Interpretation and translation
Information and Referral services: assist with referrals for healthcare, ESL classes, childcare, afterschool programs, legal services, public benefits
Coordination with DOE and City agencies on student registration, school placement, attendance, transportation, and troubleshooting as needed
Other tasks as necessary to facilitate delivery of necessary services to shelter clients
Shifts include week days or night or weekends
$39,000-$40,000 per year
