Bilingual Resident Advisor

Position Description

CIANA is looking for highly responsible, flexible, and detail-oriented Residential Advisors (RAs) to assist newly arrived asylee families with children living in a NYC Family Shelter located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Working with CIANA management, the RAs will welcome and engage asylum-seeking families, covering different shifts during the week and over the weekend.

The Center for the Integration & Advancement of New Americans (CIANA) is a social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from South Asia, the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America into the socio-economic and civic life of American society while maintaining pride in their cultural heritage.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant social services experience with immigrant populations, or two years of relevant experience working with immigrant population; or experience in a congregate housing or shelter setting

  • Ability to problem-solve and work as part of a team

  • Basic understanding of immigration laws and regulations

  • Cultural competency and understanding of child welfare regulations

  • Good English verbal and written communication skills

  • Fluency in Spanish is required; other languages is a plus

 

Responsibilities

  • Registration, intake, tracking, room check/bed count, assessment, reporting

  • Interpretation and translation

  • Information and Referral services: assist with referrals for healthcare, ESL classes, childcare, afterschool programs, legal services, public benefits

  • Coordination with DOE and City agencies on student registration, school placement, attendance, transportation, and troubleshooting as needed

  • Other tasks as necessary to facilitate delivery of necessary services to shelter clients

  • Shifts include week days or night or weekends

Salary

$39,000-$40,000 per year
